2020 has been characterized as the “Year of the SPAC,” and there is no doubt that SPAC transactions are on the rise. SPACs, or Special Purpose Acquisition Companies, raised around $2 Billion in January this year in the United States, nearly a third of the record $83 Billion collected by 248 SPACs globally in 2020. This trend is expected to continue in 2021 with 189 SPAC IPO transactions this year at the time of writing.
